Carl Friesen CMC
Chief Associate
Based in Toronto, Carl is chiefly responsible for helping emerson consulting group clients publish informative articles in trade and business magazines. He’s well qualified for this work, with a journalism degree and several years of full-time experience as a writer and editor for newspapers and magazines. His understanding of business issues is reinforced through an MBA degree earned at the University of Toronto as well as his achievement of the coveted designation Certified Management Consultant, granted by the Institute of Management Consultants.
Since 1992, Carl has worked with a wide range of business professionals including accountants, actuaries, architects, consultants, engineers, geologists and lawyers to help them demonstrate their abilities as thought-leaders. This includes arranging interviews for them with newspaper and magazine journalists, radio interviews and television appearances. Most of his work has involved helping them display their skills through published articles. He has also helped clients publish books, as well as produce newsletters and generate online content.
Carl has also worked at a public relations firm, the “Big Four” accounting and consulting firm KPMG, and the international environmental engineering firm Golder Associates.
As a thoughtleader in the area of thoughtleading, Carl practices what he preaches, delivering presentations on the value of building one’s professional profile all over the United States and Canada, contributing frequently to the London-based international magazine “PM Forum” and author of two books of his own on the topic of writing and publishing articles.
When not working, Carl enjoys riding his recumbent bicycle in the southern Ontario countryside, cross-country skiing and back-country canoeing. As a volunteer, he helps newcomers to Canada adjust to life and work in their adopted country.
