Internship Evaluations

What do our interns learn?

How do they evaluate their internship experience?

Here are a few comments…

Ryan Tan, Boston University, '11

What professional skills did you learn during this internship that you feel will help you further in college and in your career?

  • Networking – both in-person and online
  • Publishing – how the process works
  • Team dynamics – team dynamics of a small business
  • Business sense – perspective on how ECG operates
  • Thoughtleading – benefits and ways of becoming a thoughtleader

What career insights did you gain that you feel will help you be successful in your eventual career?

Thoughtleadership is a great tool to use. No matter what the industry, one can definitely apply the fundamentals of thoughtleading. When it comes to consulting, I learned that publishing and speaking are the biggest marketing methods.

What did you NOT learn about that you wish you had?

Nothing really, apart from maybe actually seeing how a large corporate consultancy works

What aspects of the internship did you enjoy?

Getting to see the world in which an independent consultant works. The museum and historical tours were great as well. The opportunity to meet people (clients and non-clients), go to events, and express opinions and ideas was outstanding. The entrepreneurial environment was also really cool. Basically, being involved in core aspects of the business was amazing; from networking at professional events to dealing with books and articles, I’ve gained a number of valuable experiences.

How could this internship be improved?

Maybe a steadier stream of daily tasks (besides the website, I really didn’t have “daily” tasks, which is good in that it shows the entrepreneurial environment I guess). Commute costs coverage would be awesome as well.

How could the room you worked in be made over to improve its working environment?

One light is broken. The storage boxes can be annoying (I like space). A proper table would be nice too. There’s really no way to add a window but I’m just throwing it out there.
