Katie Barton Summer 2010 Intern |
||
|
Katie Barton is entering her senior year at Washington & Lee University, and is a native of Rye, NY. At age 10, she won the Milton Elementary School Writing Award, and has been pursuing her passion for the written word ever since. An English Major and Art History Minor at W&L, Katie finds plenty of opportunities to study the classics of both art and literature, and enjoys finding creative ways to analyze this subject matter. She had a critical essay accepted for the 2007 Virginia Military Institute Poetry Symposium, and was nominated for the English Department’s Wornom Prize for Critical Writing in 2010. Outside of the classroom, Katie is involved in her sorority, Kappa Delta, previously serving as a Vice President (Public Relations), and has written for the campus magazine, InGeneral. She grew up sailing and running track – sports which tend to focus on an individual’s achievement and improvement within a greater team setting – and she sees writing and thoughtleading as comparable endeavors. Katie has also worked for writer and editor Rod Smith at Shenandoah, the University’s literary magazine. It was an experience that introduced her to the process of getting books, stories and essays published, and one which she hopes to build upon this summer with emerson consulting group. |
