Michael Brown

Michael Brown

Deputy Imaginative Officer

Presumably the world’s lone Deputy Imaginative Officer (DIO), Michael Brown was lured into the writing business soon after graduation—and hasn’t been seen since. A former news reporter, columnist and sportswriter, he began his writing career in Belfast, Maine with The Republican Journal—the state’s oldest weekly newspaper. Despite his self-proclaimed status as “the worst photographer in all of professional journalism,” Michael received numerous awards from the Maine Press Association for his work and developed a reputation as one of the state’s preeminent “cub” reporters and as perhaps its most colorfully outspoken sports columnist.

Mike’s freelance career has included numerous professional articles and other writing projects, including his recent contribution as a researcher and editor for emersongroup client thoughtleader Pran Tiku and his new book Six Sizzling Markets: How to Profit from Investing in Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Korea and Mexico (Wiley 2008).

Subscribing to the Austrian school of economics, Mike is a staunch advocate of the free-market and libertarian philosophy, and intends to pursue a writing career promoting such ideas. Also fascinated by power politics, Michael recently earned his Master’s degree in Political Theory and International Relations from Northeastern University, where he focused on US covert operations during the Cold War while serving as a research assistant to the graduate faculty. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Castleton State College in Vermont, where he also played varsity basketball and makes claim to the title of the NCAA unofficial record for most points ever scored—68—during warm-ups!
