Larry Karle
“More than ever,” says Larry Karle, Vice President of Retirement at Longfellow Advisors, “leveraging all available company-sponsored benefits is up to the employee participant.” And though that may sound daunting to many, Larry is here to help. A top expert at developing company retirement plans that are both efficient and effective, he explains: “The reality is that it’s rare today when a company has either the time or the manpower to guide or coach its employees toward the right benefits mix for them the way they use to do in the past.” With this in mind, Larry focuses on educating his client companies’ individual employees so as to customize solutions for each of them that will maximize their benefits.
“While every client and individual participant is different,” Larry says, “the key to success is having a goal, and a strategy to reach that goal. Sounds so elementary but with the hurried nature of everyone’s lives, the people that are continuously successful remain those that set goals and have a strategy for getting there.”
A go-to authority in the design of defined contributions, in monitoring and reviewing investment lineups, and in plan conversion and fiduciary management, Larry recommends that plan participants set aside as little as a half hour a year to meet with him for the purpose of keeping on top of their benefits plans. Even such a short yearly meeting can be sufficient to help mitigate “the chance that when they retire they will have regrets that they did not pay enough attention to their savings during the time when they could do something about it.”
Larry has been a senior consultant at Longfellow since 2008, and in the retirement plan industry even longer, since 1994. He previously served as AVP of Retirement Services for MetLife/New England Financial and Putnam Investments. A graduate of Loyola College with a Bachelor of Science degree, Larry later received his MBA from the University of Massachusetts with a concentration in Finance. He holds FINRA Series 6 and 63 registrations with LPL. In 2010, he was named one of the most influential advisors in the group retirement industry by 401kWire.com.
He’s been published and quoted in numerous industry publications too, including Employee Benefit Plan Review, Best Practices in HR, Compensation.BLR.com and Human Resource Executive. He notes: “Writing and publishing articles has allowed me to share more of my thoughts and ideas. That said, it has also allowed for me to receive valuable feedback from the people that read what I have published, feedback that at times causes me to think differently and to improve my knowledge base.”
