...why "emerson" consulting group?
Back in the 1850s and 1860s, the great essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson went about the business of communicating great ideas in a variety of ways. Though best known as a writer, Waldo actually made his living as a public speaker. Speaking coupled with writing, Emerson felt, was a veritable 1-2 punch for getting one’s message out.
But Mr. Emerson was an indomitable “networker” as well, particularly during his years as a participant in the “Saturday Club,” an informal gathering held every 4 th Saturday at the Parker House in Boston . There, a dozen or so regulars waxed philosophic with each other over whatever thoughtleading concepts came flowing through their brains.
And what brains they were! The Saturday Clubbers included many now quite-familiar literary giants: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Oliver Wendell Holmes, John Greenleaf Whittier, Bronson Alcott and Henry James, to name just a few.
Even more impressive for Emerson may be that he came by all his thoughtleading so naturally. For Waldo, here was a formula for living: Commune with others, communicate your wildest ideas, drink full the ideas of others. Emerson's approach wove writing, speaking and social networking into a harmonious tapestry, enabling thoughts and musings of both himself and those around him to live, breathe and reign forever.
