thoughts you should know...
...international pun contest

Here are a few of our favorite finalists in the 2005 International Pun Contest:

1. Two fish swim into a concrete wall.  One turns to the other and exclaims, "Dam!"

2. Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in the craft.  Unsurprisingly, it sank, proving once again that you can't have your kayak and heat it too.

3. Two hydrogen atoms meet.  One says, "I've lost my electron."  The other says, "Are you sure?"  The first replies, "Yes, I'm positive."

4. Did you hear about the Buddhist who refused Novocain during a root canal?  His goal:  transcend dental medication.

5. Mahatma Gandhi walked barefoot most of his later life, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet.  He also ate very little, leaving him rather frail and, with his odd diet, suffering from bad breath.  This made him (this one’s so bad that it's good!)....A super-calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

6. Finally, there’s the story of the man who sent ten different puns to his friends, hoping that at least one of them would make them laugh.  No pun in ten did.

...Ken Q&A on thought leadership in Suzanne Bates' newsletter

Ken Lizotte was interviewed this past month by Suzanne Bates for her e-newsletter in a segment called “ What It Takes to Be a Thought Leader.” Suzanne also cited Ken in the same issue in “How to Give a Great Elevator Pitch.”

See both pieces, and learn about Suzanne’s best-selling book Speak Like a CEO: Secrets of Commanding Attention and Getting Results as well as her October “Speak Like a CEO Boot Camp” (spaces almost gone!), by clicking http://www.bates-communications.com/newsletter.html

thoughts and actions...
...our brilliant summer interns!

This past summer, four outstanding college interns — Jia-ling Loo, Margaret Gormley, Vanessa Kitchen and Stacy Kanter — joined our staff to assist us with our many client thoughtleader projects. In addition to pitching article ideas, researching book publishers and conducting a customer survey, each also penned an article on a thought leadership topic.

Today, we’ll highlight one of them: “ It's About the AIL: To Get Articles Published, Start with an Article Ideas List” by Vanessa. The others will follow in future thoughtnotes. To read it, scroll to the bottom of our articles page, to the “publishing” section: http://www.thoughtleading.com/articles_home.htm#pub
