When pitching an article idea to editors of business publications, call, don't write. Despite what how-to-write books and magazines tell you, snail-mail queries generally are ignored or otherwise never acknowledged. Conversely, since most people feel too intimidated to make a cold call query, many editors field relatively few of them. You'll thus frequently gain an editor's ear with this method and more often than not an official "go-ahead" for one of your article ideas.

Don't hesitate to pitch your idea (in under 30 seconds) to an editor's voice mail, either. If your idea sounds good, said editor will call you back.
