What To Do When the Phone
Stops Ringing
(Read an online copy here.)
OK. You’re right. The phone stopped ringing years ago, thanks to the efficiency of emails and now text messaging. But the phrase still means something to those who are facing a slowdown in new business during these recessionary-like times.
The key questions are: What can be done about it? What can you do a little differently that won’t cost an arm and a leg? And, equally important, what can you do to help your clients get their phones to ring, too?
Today, businesses are looking for fresh solutions to current, unprecedented market forces. Very likely what you do for your clients (and could do for others who don’t know about you yet) could help them beat some of their recessionary blues—if you position it in such a way to show real value in these tough times.
Once you’ve tweaked your messages, the next step is to share your ideas with the world—in articles, speeches, ezines, press releases, blogs and other Internet venues.
Here are some recent articles written by emersongroup clients who tweaked their messages and got published in business journals:

The results for these experts? First, they are “out there” being positioned as thoughtleaders in their industries when their competitors are not. They have fresh material and ideas they can share with their clients and prospects. They are being asked to speak to corporate or industry groups and share their ideas. They are opening doors to new prospects and getting back in to see former clients.
But does this add up to a good return on their investment of time, energy and money? The answer is “yes.”
There are a couple of ways you can learn how and why thoughtleading works. I’ll be speaking about the “ROI of Thoughtleading” later this month at the May 15 meeting of Women in Consulting, the premier association of women consultants in the country. The presentation is called, “The ROI of Reputation: The Real Payback for Becoming a Thoughtleader and How to Get Started.”
